I'm on a ferry in NY harbour!

Edit: I was on a ferry in the harbour, just setting off for an hour cruise around the bay. We'd spent the morning walking round SoHo, Tribeca and Greenwich Village. We'd been to Strand's with its 18 miles of second-hand books and checked out Union Square - so we figured we needed to rest our feet. The queue for Ellis and Liberty Islands was two hours long, tickets for the statue sold-out, but the cruise was mostly empty. It turned out to be a very good decision. We saw all the sights and had an excellent commentary from Tom.

Afterwards we wandered up Broadway past Wall St and Ground Zero, which at the moment just looks like any other building site. Finally we finished off the day with a reasonable Mexican. I had chilles rellenos but they brought the bill whilst I was pondering pudding and so decided the better of sopapillas.

Ellis Island is worth seeing. Last I'd heard, you could only visit the base of the Statue of Liberty, but it's been a while since I checked.

An evening cruise is especially nice, if you're planning a return visit.

I think you can go up the statue but not into the torch, although our guide indicated that this might be relaxed next month.

I thought Ellis Island might be more worth a visit but it probably says more to Americans that it does to me. If anything it reminded me of a concentration camp I once saw.

Groovy icon btw.
