What's your drug of choice?

Here's a poll based on the Horizon programme that the BBC are showing tonight. The poll is about the number of deaths directly attributable to using that drug, per number of users.

Poll #1133472 What are the biggest killers?

Per number of users which three are the biggest killers in the UK?

Alcohol
4(13.3%)
Amphetamine
0(0.0%)
Benzodiazepines (valium etc)
0(0.0%)
Cannabis
0(0.0%)
Cocaine
0(0.0%)
Ecstasy
0(0.0%)
Heroin
0(0.0%)
Ketamine
0(0.0%)
Solvents
0(0.0%)
Street methadone (as opposed to legal methadone)
0(0.0%)
Tobacco
1(3.3%)

I've left out khat, alkyl nitrites, anabolic steroids, LSD and methylphenidate which have no recorded deaths and GHB, barbiturates and buprenorphines for which there isn't a record of the number of users.

Heh, interesting near-uniformity of thought. Either all the respondents are very savvy, or else very misguided.

Or possibly they missed the 'per number of users' line. I know I did.

I'll let it run until tomorrow and then post the results. I don't want to give anything away yet.

My logic is that while the 2nd most lethal drug is alcohol, I excluded on the "Per number of users" line. Tobacco gets maybe a 3rd of its users

Pharma heroin, medically administered is almost safe, but...
And I'm not sure about death rates, but Methadone is nasty stuff - injected, it's like glue and it is more addictive than heroin.

Coke causes aging and secondary deaths, so I'm not sure how it is counted.

I had that feeling too about methadone, although it's a bit of a guess as I've got no idea how many people use it.

I watched the programme last night. Very interesting. I wasn't very surprised at the results, although I suspect some scored higher than others simply because more is known about them and scientists have had longer to study the effects.
