IT help please

My nice Packard Bell 3 button CO-3UP mouse has stopped working and I'm back on the MS Serial Mouse with the horrible clunky action and no wheel. My finger is hurting!

It's an optical USB mouse, it's still powered up but just won't move the pointer any more. I used to be able to unplug and replug but even that has stopped working now. I also tried chilledchimp's USB mouse and that won't work either.

Any ideas?

I wrote about the mouse probably being broken, but if two of them don't work it's at the USB port end. If you've tried on multiple USB ports I would guess the next steps would be to remove any recent software that might be causing the problem (seems unlikely) or to reinstall the USB drivers for your motherboard. If those don't work I suspect it's a hardware fault.

Have you got other USB devices that work?

Optical mice stop tracking when the light tunnel fills up with fluff...

It's not a tracking problem. The mouse works fine on chilledchimp's laptop.

Extra information!

If you've tried other mice and other ports, then possibly a driver. Try the control panel "Mouse" and Hardware USB devices options, and see if it is recognised.

Note: On my laptop, I can disable an external mouse in favour of the touchpad and vica versa....
