England in the Final

The England women's football team has made in to the final of Euro '09 where they will meet either Germany or Norway on Thursday. It's the first time they've been there since the first one in 84. They won't be favourite to win but if they can get their shooting boots on, they're in with a chance.

To quote the Fiver, it's unclear if we should be pleased to see women doing well at what many consider to be a man's game, or upset at the sight of them doing better than their male equivalents for considerably less pay.

I think we should be confused that some people still think football is a man's game. The only reason it isn't bigger is that the FA stamp on it at each available opportunity, such as banning women from playing on the same grounds as men for 50 years, or stopping girls play boys in schools, or reneging on their funding promise.

The BBC news headline was "girls aloud/allowed"!

And it's the mighty Germany. Gulp! Well, we managed to hold them to 0-0 at the last World Cup iirc...

I hope it's going to be on the radio, as I have no Eurosport access down here on holiday. But so far the BBC seem to have entirely ignored the tournament.

I don't have Eurosport either so I'm not sure I'll be able to see it. And the Beeb have started mentioning it a bit since the women got into the semis but it's hard to find any coverage of note.
