Vampire conference in two weekends

As reported in today's Guardian, the University of Hertfordshire is holding a Vampire conference on the 16th-17th April

The schedule is here (word doc).

The plenaries are Gothic Charm School, or How Vampires Learned to Sparkle by Dr Spooner, Cancer with a Purpose: Putting The Cinematic Vampire Under the Microscope by Dr Abbot and Breathing Life into the Undead: Writing Vampire Fiction by Marcus Sedgwick (followed by a book signing).

So, why are more and more university conferences and symposiums looking more and more like they are a science fiction/fantasy/horror convention panel discussions without the costuming???
