The budget deficit in perspective

The UK budget deficit is £13.3bn. In pennies that's 48 times smaller than Wales and 26,304 times heavier than whales.

So I guess to reduce the deficit we need to increase the size of Wales (by annexing NI perhaps) or the size of whales (by feeding them the casualties from the Wales - NI war?). It's a thorny issue.

Hideous Gideon's method is to take £7bn from the budget and give £6bn to Vodafone in tax relief. It makes just about as much sense.

It's National Insurance, Matt. It pays for the National Health Service and state benefits (and probably Trident as well, I wouldn't put it past the Tory ****ers)

National Insurance isn't ring-fenced, is it? So they can spend it on anything they like, really. Like empty aircraft carriers escorted by destroyers that can't fire missiles.

Actually it's Northern Ireland.

Of course, sorry - tired and not paying proper attention. And I'm ex-HMRC so I would read it as National Insurance.
