If you ever go to California

Try the Roaring Camp Railroad outside of Felten, near Santa Cruz. We had just the best time there back in 1988. There's a narrow guage steam train that takes you up into the redwood forest. The first is quite exciting but the redwoods are something else.

We happened to turn up the same day that they were holding a Victorian costume parade. These were for the most part authentic period costumes worn by the young women of the town, the clothing now being too small for the adults. It was all very pleasant and rather yearned back to the community fetes I remember.

And if you happed to be there on an event day, try some of the hamburgers - the best I've ever tasted.
