Is who bovvered?

It sounds like I'm in a minority but I really enjoyed Catherine Tate's turn as the Doctor's partner in crime in the Christmas special. I thought we got a bit of comedy, which is what you might expect, but as the programme went on, I think Tate turned in a solid performance and we got to see real character development.

The last two companions have been rather giddy and girlish and I think the Bride could be an interesting contrast.

I'm not worried about having Kylie in it either. I'm seeing her as some kind of Ice Queen villain, but maybe that's just me.

Glad its not just me who thinks that - after all, we had two seasons of Billie "coz we want to" Piper who is now seen as the benchmark for companions. Though I'm not a massive fan, Tate *can* act and while the The Runaway Bride was a bit crap, it was truer to the spirit of Dr Who than, say, Last of the Timelords, and "Donna" could be amusing as a companion.

Personally, I'm holding out for "Sally Sparrow" though ...

Oh yes. I'm holding out for Sally Sparrow really quite personally. ;)

I said after that episode that it could be a jumping off point for yet another spin-off series; the character was strong and appealing enough.

I hope you're right about the character development, but all I can see now are Gay Icons.

Maybe Elton John will be coming in as a mega villian.

I think it could be cool, personally. I'm certainly not going to declare that RTD is deliberately trying to destroy the series out of hubris, which is a comment I've seen elsewhere...

I'd hope for Moffat too. He's the best writer they have.

Sounds good. I don't know her, but I liked the Xmas episode.

She does a rather dull sketch show but with one good character, South London school girl Lauren. Ask chilledchimp or queenortart for an impression. She did a sketch with Tony Blair for Children in Need. I didn't think they were that needy.

You can find her stuff on Youtube I'm sure.
