At precisely 07:06:05.0403020100 this morning the world ended but an identical one was substitued in its place, as happens every morning at the same time. And as usual I was asleep and missed it.

In other news, two particles are likely to collide with a combined force of a mosquito collision. It's an expensive way to swat bugs.

For comparison, cosmic rays go up to 1020 eV, LHC collisions are at 1.41013 eV.

Funny I thought the new collider was supposed to get particles up to with 20 mph of the speed of light and then crash them together in a spectacular train wreck.... next month. Or are you referring to different expensive particles?

No, the same. The particles are very fast, but very small. Perhaps I should have talked about pressure instead.

I dunno... according to Angus' blog, we're all extra super doomed.

Don't these scientists get up early? We sociologists would have gone for the apocalypse just in time for afternoon tea.

Remember they an hour ahead of us as they are on CET.

8:30 was the time they turned the thing on, to make sure it was working properly . Doomsday (or whatever) comes later. After all there was no work to do until they turned it on.

9:30 local is a reasonable start time surely?
