Time for T

Here are ten things I like beginning with the letter T, as proposed by spencerpine. You can ask me for a letter because it's totally a meme and shit.

1. Tea - the king of beverages, even without a biscuit. A panacea for your ails.
2. Talking of which, Tim Tams, the king of biscuits. Two crisp chocolate biscuit layers with a cream filling and a chocolate coating. An improved Penguin and vastly superior to the Orea.
2. Tintin - I have a picture from L'Etoile Mysterieuse above my desk. I love the little racist reporter.
3. Traveller - 'This is Free Trader Beowulf, calling anyone ... Mayday, Mayday ... we are under attack ... main drive is gone ... turret number one not responding' It's up there with Tannhauser Gate for iconic Science Fiction.
4. Typography - I love the whole process of printing, especially letterpress and the different ways in which information is presented.
5. Tribute to Nothing - a little hardcore band from Worcester. They never got anywhere really but I saw them 13 times in the '90s and each gig was good (Muse once supported them).
6. Taxis - To be specific, Black London taxicabs. I get a childlike thrill from riding in these. And there are taxicab numbers of which the most famous is 1729.
7. TI 57 - My first programmable calculator. 50 program steps, 8 registers and a groovy red display. I can even remember the smell when I first opened the box 30 years ago. I even wrote my A Level course work on it - a little routine to do Simpson's rule.
8. Two of Swords - My favourite tarot card, at least in the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, with the blindfolded woman holding swords across her chest in front of the sea and the moon.
9. tegeus-Cromis - a character from M John Harrison's Viriconium stories who fancies himself a better poet than swordsman. He is not but he is a wonderfully melancholic anti-hero.
10. Toro, Guillermo del - he made two of my favourite films, Chronos and Pan's Labyrinth. One day he might get round to At the Mountains of Madness.

#1 & #2 are sometimes combined in Australia in the form of the "Tim Tam Slam". You bit each end off and suck the tea through the Tim Tam.

Are yes, reducing the Tim Tam to a hot gooey chocolate bomb that must be consumed in one bite before it melts all over your shirt.

I have done these on occasion but prefer to savour my Tim Tams, they're not cheap round these parts. I reserve the Slam for lesser comestibles such as the Twix.

Expensive, eh? The genuine article is here, too, but the "homebrand" version is $2, about 80 pence.

Orea? Is that a female Oreo?
