Last weeek in creative writing we read a very short story by David Foster Wallace called Incarnations of Burned Children.

Apparently I was the only one who liked it, except perhaps the tutor. The reaction of most readers was a stunned 'why should you want to write something like that?' So read it at your peril.

My own lovecraftianish tale progresses. I have to present it for reading in class next week. It has the antiquarianism, the horror already inside, the 'primitive' civilisation and the New England themes. I've avoided any overt HPL references because they presuppose reading that the audience will not have done. Maybe I'll rewrite it with some amount of yog-sothery. Maybe not. My main concern at the moment is that it be any good at all.
