The Joy of Print

For some reason I can't quite fathom, there's something indescribably cool about printing presses. I love everything there is about typesetting and fonts, even though my knowledge is pretty limited.

I had one of those small plastic sets when I was a kid and loved playing around with it. I think it may have been a John Bull Printing Set. Maybe that's where all this comes from.

And I love poster art. When I was a kid, my Mum, who's a trained artist, sused to make posters for various local functions. I really used to love watching her work on those.

We saw a press at the top of the town museum in Lancaster, PA on our post Gen Con road trip and I was a bit disappointed that they only really get it going for school parties.


I'd just love to get my hand on one of these and do some printing. Small ones are rather cheap too. You can pick something up on eBay for under £40 it seems, if you've got a vehicle to carry it.



And then of course, you need somewhere to put the thing. I suppose I could fit the shed out, but it would mean more toys. And maybe I have enough at the moment.

Still, pipe-dream.
