Tea-drinker par excellence

Old 'uns are good 'uns

This is what I learned at school:

Napoleon manga allegrement six poulets sans claquer apres.
Li baise bien chez notre oncle Ferdinand Neon.
Li n'a qu'a rabaisser ces fringues.

It possibly helps to know that Li was a Danish/Vietnamese/French class mate and that these were mnemonics for chemistry. The first one, Napoleon joyfully ate six chickens without croaking afterwards, is a particular favourite.

It's a testimony to their power that I still remember them after 20 years.

A book meme

What we have here is the top 106 books most often marked as "unread" by LibraryThing’s users. As in, they sit on the shelf to make you look smart or well-rounded. Bold the ones you've read, underline the ones you own but haven't yet read, italicize the ones you started but didn't finish.

I have a pretty good hit rate of finishing what I started but I also have a few in my in pile at the moment. That said, I've not read many of the English classics that weren't either gothic, fantasy or science fiction. That's because my formative years were spent in France, were I also assiduously avoided the classics by pretending to be foreign.
