Failure has a flavour

Tonight I made a pork stew with peppers, carrots, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, garlic, paprika and herb dumplings. I'd cooked it for about two hours on the hob in my cast iron cook pot (one from IKEA, less than half the price of the French ones). And then I put the dumplings in for the last half hour and put it in the oven.

I've got a bad cold at the moment so almost no sense of smell and it is now apparent that the vegetarian suet had gone rancid. I don't know how long it was in the cupboard but rancid dumplinfsa
