The genius that is Shakira

We're just caught her latest offering on Top of the Pops and it's always worth having the subtitles on for her tracks. Last time round, of course, it was:

Lucky that my breasts are small and humble
So you don't confuse them with mountains

This time, a similar theme:

For you, I’d give up all I own
And move to a communist country
If you came with me, of course
And I’d file my nails so they don’t hurt you
And lose those pounds, and learn about football

She seems to have a chip on her shoulder about the other woman. Lucky, indeed, that you don't confuse her breasts with mountains.

Nice interview with her in the Independent the other day.

I see that the barminess has no end, but she does seem genuine, much like my sister in fact. She thinks she knows how the world works and expresses it in a way that means much to her but is rather at odds with what anyone else might say, and regardless of what anyone else might say. And she takes things very seriously.

"Her last world tour was called The Tour of the Mongoose, because the mongoose is the only animal that can survive a cobra bite (make of that metaphor what you will). The show featured vast screens depicting puppets of Saddam Hussein and George Bush, with their strings pulled by the Grim Reaper, and ended with a straight-faced Shakira rising up through the stage in a cave-woman outfit and with a lit candelabra on her head."
