Lost and lost again

I watched only the start of Lost. There was jet engine on a beach and I said if someone gets sucked into that I'm turning off. So I did.

And then last night, iPlayer had Girlfriend in a Coma by Douglas Coupland.

It seems that they have very similar plot ideas.

In other news, it was interesting to read about a real Randian hero.

I did't watch Lost conistently even at the start, but my engagement with it disintegrated entirely when one week a polar bear appeared on the desert island, and the next week no-one seemed to think it was worth mentioning.

So many of these wannabe mysterious, overarching series can't be bothered with maintaining narrative coherence or pacing: bricks without straw. I baled from Flashforward for that reason - the setup was interesting but the soap-opera crap suffocated the plot to the point where it just wasn't moving forward in a credible manner. Also, Joe Fiennes and his bovine wife were really, really irritating :/

We watched about 4 or 5 episodes of Flashforward. It seemed to alternate a good episode with a bad one. At least Lost got to a conclusion unlike many US series. With such long seasons, series, unless truly exceptional, are bound to have filler. I prefer the British format.
