I had a dream

I meant to have a short nap and fell asleep for over three hours.

I had a dream that I was working in Private Office, that's a minister's office in a government department. It was BIS where I work now except that the minister was Andy Burnham who's Labour so not in office. I was working on something when a question came round about the number of analyst we needed in the department. As an analyst I felt I knew something on this matter so I went to have a word with the minister. There were a number of us round the table which included a current colleague and a guy called John. I used to roleplay with John at the Guide of Melee and Magic in Catford about 15 years ago. In the dream he was selling some pictures for a Christian charity. I wasn't too keen but everyone was putting money in so I felt obliged. Most of them looked like children's drawings but I got one of two small plastic cyclists in a Lego landscape. It was obvious that the setting was France, John and I exchanged a few words about living there (although I've no recollection of him ever having done so). Then I started to talk to the minister about the number of analysts he needed and he seemed terribly keen to have quite a lot. He illustrated this with an analogy which started, "If Cthulhu was getting rid of carpenters ..."

And then I woke up.

Didn't know you were also in the Guild of Melee & Magic! I used to go to the one at the Westmoreland Arms in Baker Street that evolved into London Gamers, rather than the Catford branch.

I also used to go to the branch at the Florence Nightingale pub near Waterloo.

Yep, so did I! What did you play?

We didn't play much with anyone else because we didn't have much interest in playing WoD or Shadowrun which seemed to be the main games on offer. We did play Witchcraft with this Israli but it was very dull, magically powerfully NPC Israeli witches solved all our problems. So I ran some games such as A Jewel Upon the Deep, a space game using Over The Edge.

Regular players were Simon Hibbs, Sean Varney and David Thomas.

Hmmmm... I also played in a Witchcraft game run by a Jewish guy (called Elan or Elam or something like that....) who sold all his gaming books and emigrated to Israel when we finished the game. I don't remember any Israeli witches though - we were playing that Alternity Dark Matter adventure about the mothmen (The Killing Jar), converted to Witchcraft. Can't remember if it was at the Florence Nightingale or the pub we moved to afterwards (whichever that was!)

The thing that really annoyed me about the Florence Nightingale was the fact that we had to move to a different pub (The Jubilee) every third or fourth week because the Masons had booked it. Eventually, the Masonic meetings became more and more frequent and we had to find somewhere else entirely.
